What stone-ground atta means

Stone-ground atta is flour made by grinding whole wheat between stones. You may know it as chakki atta.

How stone grinding works

The wheat goes between two heavy stones. One stone turns against the other and slowly crushes the grain into flour.

Many large mills use steel rollers instead. Rollers run much faster, and they often separate the parts of the grain before mixing them back.

What you will notice at home

Stone-ground atta usually feels a little coarser between your fingers than roller-milled flour.

It can take a slightly different amount of water than you are used to. Start with a little less than you think you need and add it slowly. Then let the dough rest for 15 to 20 minutes before you roll it.

How we make Vilas Atta

Vilas Stone-Ground Atta starts with selected quality wheat sourced from Madhya Pradesh. We clean the grain carefully and grind it on a stone mill. It comes in a 5 kg pack.
